Type of Titanium
TYPES OF TITANIUM

Titanium as a metal is superior to other metals on the market because of several unique features. Titanium is a very lightweight metal and also carries alot of strength. The metal is a hypollergenic metal (meaning many people will not have an allergc reaction to this) and it it is one of the few metals on the market where prices have not soared with the market. Titaniumw will wear over time but will not take on major chips or dents (only light scratching through the surface).

There are 3 major grades of titanium used to manufacture bands, rings and other jewelry.

Titanium 6/4 - aircraft grade titanium Titanium 6/4 (Ti-6/4) consists of 90% titanium, 6% aluminum and 4% vanadium. It is much harder than basic grade (CP) titanium, not to mention other jewelry metals. Aircraft grade titanium will also resist wearing to a much greater extent.

Titanium 6/6/2 - extra-hard titanium Titanium 6/6/2 (Ti-6/6/2) consists of 86% titanium, 6% aluminum, 6% vanadium and 2% tin. This is the strongest titanium alloy on the jewelry market. It is 130% stronger than Ti-6/4, making it the best choice for tension set titanium rings. Extra-hard titanium offers the highest resistance to denting and bending.

This grade of titanium is very difficult to work with and not many jewelers offer it as an option for rings.

Commercial pure titanium, grade 4 Although softer than Aircraft Grade titanium, commercial pure titanium (CP), grade 4 is nevertheless much superior strength wise to traditional jewelry metals such as gold, silver, and platinum. CP titanium is often used in rings that have diamonds or gemstones flush set into the titanium.

Our rings are produced using the most common form of titamium (Titanium 6/4 (Ti-6/4). We use this because it has the best overall appearance and wears the best over time. The metal has the added alloys to it that actually provide better strength and structure to the make up of the ring.

**A common myth/rumor is that Titanium Wedding Bands cannot be cut off in the case of an emergency. This is a myth just like any other strong metal, it can be cut in case of an emergency. These rings are often handmade or machine cut and are cut from larger pieces of titanium.

If you are worried about this a good idea would be to contact your local emergency room to see if they have ever ran into this problem. Or ask us and we can inform you more on the myths regarding these materials.
