Know Your Hard Wear

We can talk about designs all day, but when it comes to finding a ring that will last and feel great for a lifetime, the material is everything. Here are the specs on all the metals (and a non-metallic favorite) that you'll find in play at Titanium-Buzz. Know your metals, know your ring.

For an in-depth look at how metals can reflect your personality, check out our other guide, Which Metal Are You. It's an important question. For real.

Platinium

Cost: $ $ $ $ $
Weight: ⚖ ⚖ ⚖ ⚖
Durability: ⚒ ⚒

Look, there's nothing "wrong" with platinum, but let's call it out for what it is: It's heavy, it isn't that durable, and it's expensive as all get-out (costs more than gold!). Sure, it has some great qualities that we love (that luster), but we think it makes a much better inlay than a primary material. You'll find it accenting our rings, but not building them. Go with cobalt instead.

Gold

Cost: $ $ $ $
Weight: ⚖ ⚖
Durability:

Forget all those commercials about how gold is the investment of the future, we typically don't recommend investing in gold rings. Yeah, it's got name recognition, but anything you can literally deform with your bare hands isn't worth wearing for a lifetime. Just like platinum, there's a lot that we do like about gold, but mostly as an inlay or accent. While we make exceptions from time to time, you can usually do better.

Titanium

Cost: $ $
Weight:
Durability: ⚒ ⚒ ⚒

Now we're talking. There's a reason we named our entire business after titanium, and it all comes down to this: Titanium has the highest strength-to-weight ratio of any metal in existence and a luster that goes toe-to-toe with platinum, all at a reasonable price point. Titanium is metal done the way metal should be, with a tough versatility that is going to hold up while fitting in just about anywhere. Nothing feels or looks better, and no selection anywhere beats what we have on offer. You simply cannot go wrong with titanium on your side.

Damascus Steel

Cost: $ $ $ $
Weight: ⚖ ⚖ ⚖
Durability: ⚒ ⚒ ⚒

Ah, Damascus steel. Titanium may be our favorite metal, but Damascus steel is our favorite to talk about. Nothing else you will ever wear comes loaded with so much history and, for that matter, mystery. First developed deep in the mists of the ancient world, the legacy of Damascus steel has endured for over two thousand years as the world's most intriguing metal. Utterly unique, utterly mesmerizing, utterly worth your time.

Cobalt Chrome

Cost: $ $ $
Weight: ⚖ ⚖ ⚖
Durability: ⚒ ⚒ ⚒ ⚒

Cheaper, lighter, more brilliant, and twice as strong, cobalt chrome is what platinum could have been if it had applied itself. Cobalt chrome destroys platinum in just about every category you could think of, so the only real question is why anyone gives a $#!% about platinum when they've got cobalt as an alternative. We're in love with this stuff and have gone all-in on this metal. But don't take our word for it: Check it out for yourself and you'll see what we mean soon enough.

Tungsten

Cost: $ $
Weight: ⚖ ⚖ ⚖ ⚖ ⚖
Durability: ⚒ ⚒ ⚒ ⚒ ⚒

With (almost literally) unstoppable durability, there's no other heavy hitter that hits as heavy as mighty tungsten. It looks cool and wears like a tank, but all that power comes at a price: It's got a lot of weight. If you've ever worn a ring made of, well, anything else, you're going to notice the difference in weight when you put one of these bad boys on. You wouldn't think that would matter but, trust us, it does. That said, if you're not the sort of man to be deterred by a little heft in his jewelry, then step on up to our badass collection.

Black Zirconium

Cost: $ $ $
Weight:
Durability: ⚒ ⚒ ⚒

No, it's not like the stuff in synthetic diamonds. This is the ninja of metals: Strong. Silent. Lethal. If you want to break away from the tyranny of gray and go with a badass black ring, then black zirconium is how you do it. It's comparable to titanium in durability and is almost as lightweight but, brother, nothing does the power of darkness like this specialized metal. Check it out if you want to see some of the coolest rings we've ever done.

Carbon Fiber

Cost: $ $
Weight:
Durability: ⚒ ⚒ ⚒

The un-metal. A synthetic polymer so tough that it matches and, in some cases, beats metal for strength and power. With its slick as $#!% twill patterns, unique luster, and the fact that it's almost impossible to wear a substance that's lighter, it's the ultimate material for supremely comfortable rings that look exactly unlike anything that's ever come before. If you're ready for the future of men's jewelry, then it's waiting for you right here.

Stainless Steel

Cost: $
Weight: ⚖ ⚖ ⚖ ⚖
Durability: ⚒ ⚒ ⚒

Not the first metal people usually think of when they think of rings, but don't count this underdog out. Stainless steel makes a decent ring material for the same reasons we use it in things like appliances: It looks nice and holds up over time. We tend to focus on Damascened steel at Titanium-Buzz, but if you're looking for real affordability, then you could do a lot worse than stainless steel.
